Senior citizens helped build this province. They deserve to be taken care of, not ignored.

Alberta’s NDP Opposition is the most trusted defender of the public health care system that seniors helped create, and we are the most effective opposition party fighting to protect it from privatization.

The Progressive Conservative government is attempting to balance their books on the backs of seniors by cutting long-term care services. We can’t let that happen.

For years the government has cut starved the health care system of funding. They manufactured a crisis, and opened the door for private companies to fill the gap left by years of underfunding by government – but the services they provide are too expensive, and inadequate to serve seniors with complex medical needs.

Alberta’s NDP Opposition is the party that exposed the government’s plan to close long-term care beds – despite an election promise to create 600 new ones.

We exposed poor conditions in seniors’ facilities due to chronic understaffing and low wages, and we are the party that fought for more affordable drug coverage for seniors, to lift some of the burden from their pocketbooks.

Alberta’s NDP caucus has a proven track record of seniors’ advocacy. We will always listen, and we will never turn our backs on those who’ve given us a future.
