Job Posting: Communications & Research Officer, Temporary
Duties
- Writes and researches news releases, speaking notes, issue sheets, position papers, leaflets, and statements
- Supports research, media and organizational aspects of MLA outreach and public events
- Maintains Caucus website
- Assists MLA & caucus activity in social media
- Monitors and keeps MLAs apprised of news coverage, trends and issues; tracks NDP activity in the media
- Investigates and analyzes public policy issues
- Provides factually accurate, politically relevant, and timely information on policies and programs and other government and public activities and initiatives
- Networks with diverse organizations
Competencies
- Superior oral and written communications skills
- Proven success in public policy research, with direct-input research in addition to internet and document research, and in doing analysis from a public policy perspective
- Demonstrated success working in an environment of daily deadlines, changing priorities, and multitasking—time/task management skills
- Understanding of the political dynamics of Alberta, particularly in relation to the NDP
- Public communications or journalism background valuable
- Proven success working as a part of a small team and working with elected politicians and their schedules
Salary
- $46 026-$60 976 annually, depending on education and experience.
- This is a term position to March 31, 2012 and immediate availability to begin in January is necessary
